Between Amarante and Vila Real, in the heart of Serra do Marao, this Pousada first opened in 1942. Although easily accessed through the forested mountains the Pousada still retains the welcoming atmosphere of an isolated retreat. It provides a good central location for exploring the area and the nearby towns of Amarante and Vila Real. Amarante is an ancient town, which has developed at a crossing of the river Tamega. Dominating the town and looking down regally on the river is the convent and church of Sao Goncalo. Vila real 23 kms away is a small prosperous town which produces the famous mateus rose wine. The country home of the count of villa real is open to the public.

Casa Da Calcada

The hotel is located in the historical town of Amarante , only 60 kilometres from Porto . The Casa da Calcada has been built in the 16th century, to become one of the palaces for the count of Redondo .Amarante is one of the most important examples of the romantic archichitecture in Portugal with a very well preserved historical and monumental area
